About Us and
Our Founder - Marilyn K. Crockett
Marilyn is one of the most loved and admired women today for being a true pioneer for widows. Her
dedication to the needs and support of these special women is one to be admired. As a pioneer for widows,
Marilyn began her journey from her own experience of losing her life partner and spouse. She discovered
the hardships and challenges a Widow faces in a life all alone. Experiencing what she has lived as a widow, she
soon discovered that there were no services for Widows, she was on her own.
Marilyn was born in Clay, Kentucky in 1944. In 1957 Marilyn’s parents along with her 2 brothers moved to
Melbourne, Florida. Marilyn grew up in Melbourne and attended Melbourne High School where she met her
partner in life Larry Winston Crockett. They both attended college until Larry was considered for the
Vietnam War but thankfully received a government deferment due to his working on vital telemetry equipment.
They were married and blessed with 2 daughters and wanted a better life for their girls.
To make them more aware of life from the incept, they purchased land in Fellsmere, Florida, and this afforded
them this opportunity. The girls were free to explore with baby chicks, ducks, dogs, cats, horses
and nature. Marilyn also started her career in accounting and was a successful business woman,
housewife, mom and wife. With her busy life in place, Marilyn also was involved with the local church
and served as a Sunday School teacher for 20 years. Marilyn has always been active with her family and
community, and has always had a heart for people especially “little people” (children). At age 45, Marilyn’s life took a sad turn as she lost her partner in life, her husband, friend and father to her daughters. It was a devastating time for Marilyn and her daughters. The future did not look good and Marilyn found herself alone to manage her household, career and daughters, who where both in the middle of college. After searching for many years to find group support and grief counseling, Marilyn’s faith brought her the peace that she needed to make it through each day. Many years passed and the family became larger with marriage and the birth of her two wonderful grandchildren. Marilyn continued to teach Sunday School and attend church to find that even the churches did not have a place for widows and widowers. This prompted her to use the facilities at hand to form the first Widow to Widow group in her town of Clermont, FL. From the humble beginnings of 6 Widows to the current of 32 Widows locally and the outreach with 3 groups in Tempe, AZ, Plant City, FL and Melbourne, FL the WOTAW.com concept was born. Wisdom of the Ages Worldwide is the catalyst for today’s life line to the millions of Widow’s in meeting the needs in grief support, household repair, auto repair, to anything that effects the daily lives of widows and widowers. With the support of her Daughter, Cheri, and Cheri’s husband, Jerrell, the new and innovative birth of WOTAW.com brought the necessary attention with newspaper releases, TV news spots, and the exciting new website depicting the raffle of the furnished home with car. With the funds derived from the raffle the WOTAW group will be expanded with current literature, grief counselors, transportation, and any expense to assist the needs of the widow and widower. |
